Federal charges against man for importation and illegal possession of weapons

A grand federal jury issued a formal indictment of five charges against a man for illegal importation of firearms, conspiracy to import and possess illegally imported firearms, illegal possession of machine guns, smuggling of goods into the The United States and conspiracy to smuggle goods into the country, said in a statement the head of the Federal Prosecutor, Stephen Muldrow.

According to the formal indictment, between June 2017 and November 2019, defendant Lucas E. Izagas Figueroa, aiding and abetting others, imported into the United States from China more than 50 devices designed exclusively to convert a semi-automatic weapon to a machine gun. The charges allege that the seller fraudulently described items with names like “Nylon Fiber Mag” and “Hardware Accessories,” when in fact, they were machine gun conversion devices with the Glock logo.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.

Assistant federal prosecutors Jeanette M. Collazo-Ortiz and Jonathan L. Gottfried, head of the Violent Crimes and Homeland Security Section, are in charge of prosecuting the case.
