OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – One Sunday afternoon, a full-fledged mall in broad daylight couldn’t stop the shots.
Witnesses said several shots were fired in the parking lot of the Oakland Park flea market at 3161 West Oakland Park Boulevard.
A man in his twenties died and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies answered a call at approximately 12:51 p.m.
“There was an altercation between several adult men,” the sergeant noted. BSO’s Donald Prichard said at the scene. “That altercation provoked a shootout that fired and killed the victim.”
Prichard said the suspects are described as Latin white men.
“They are believed to have fled in a black Escalade-type vehicle heading south,” Prichard said.
As the minutes and hours passed on Sunday, the friends and relatives of the shooting victim showed up at the scene.
“It’s just a very sad situation. You got it right in front of the flea market, ”said Nikki Stokes, a family friend. The people who are dying here are ridiculous. Someone else might have been killed today because of this nonsense. We must stop the violence. “
Detectives spent several hours processing the area for clues and interviewing witnesses about what may have caused the shootings.
A motive and who was the target of this shooting is still being investigated, but there are cameras in the parking lot and investigators will explore this video to find clues.
“All I can say is that there were several men involved in this altercation,” Prichard said.
Authorities said an AR-15-style rifle was recovered at the scene.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective Palushaj at 954-321-4226. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
