The film Plantats, directed by Lilo Vilaplana, won the Audience Award at the 38th Miami Film Festival.
“The awards voted for by our Festival audience are determined by the audience of each screening invited to rate the film,” the Miami Film Festival stated.
For his part, Vilaplana thanked on his social networks all those who opted for the film: “Thank you to all those who prefer Plantats around the world. Thank you for supporting us and wanting to do historical justice,” he said. .
“Thank you to the Miami audience for backing us up. Thank you for preferring Plantats. ‘We’re waiting for you at the movies!'” The director said.
Vilaplana has stated that his film, which was released last March 12th, He said the festival offered his film a “fifth treatment”.
“The disrespect of the Miami Film Festival in historic exile and its complicity with the Castro dictatorship is an ignominy,” he argued.
The filmmaker also assured that the festival of the city of the sun treats with preference to films made by communists, and that they remain “kneeling” before the government of Cuba for money and “comfort”.
“It’s a shame how the management of this Festival treated the film Plantats in this event. Plantats was the most followed film, made in Miami, with local talent, they despised it. The Miami Film Festival was held in Miami from March 5-14 in virtual format, although some films were screened in theaters.
The Planted tape is dedicated to the memory of all political prisoners who spent years in prison in Cuba to confront the dictatorship.
Vilaplana himself has said that the film, shot in locations in Miami and Puerto Rico, aims to “do historical justice.”
The Cuban Grandmaster of Chess Lázaro Bruzón Batista recognize the value of the film: “I had already seen some documentaries on the subject, yet the film is another level. What value does these men have in facing so many injustices and violence against them. The biggest proof that everything narrated happens like this they are the real protagonists that many still live and come out in the end validating every argument, ”he said.
