The Fiscal Control Board will conclude its pilot program with 10 municipalities starting June 30, the federal agency announced today, Friday.

This program provided an important insight into the range of financial problems facing municipalities and the deep-rooted systemic challenges that must be borne to make fiscal sustainability possible, the body said in a statement.

We recommend:

“The pilot program confirmed that the current structure of the municipal financial system is inadequate in light of the many challenges facing Puerto Rico,” Board Chairman David Skeel said in written statements.

“The Supervisory Board believes that the current municipal funding system needs to change for municipalities to achieve fiscal sustainability,” he concludes.
