Flathead gyms expect a large number of members during the New Year

KALISPELL – Several gyms in the Flathead Valley expect to see a drastic increase in members at the gym due to people’s New Year’s resolutions.

According to The Summit CEO Brad Roy, its facilities typically see its members increase by hundreds.

“We have about 400 new members,” he said. “Sometimes we see even more. I think facilities across the country are seeing this huge influx at this time of year.”

However, The Summit personal trainer Trina Starker says that immediately after the turn of the year, the number of people appearing begins to decline.

“People come in and are very, very motivated. Almost too motivated in some cases because they come in and touch the gym so hard they start to get upset, maybe they exaggerate, maybe they feel too sore,” Starker explained.

Both Starker and Roy say that when people make New Year’s resolutions to “get in better shape,” they should think holistically. For example, do you want to be in better shape to be more active with your family? Want to be in a better shape so you can do more activities with friends?

Starker says getting fit is the second most popular resolution right behind straightening finances.

Matt Hurley, CEO of Fuel Fitness Kalispell, said his gym increases during the New Year, due to the colder weather.

“People who sign up for the facility may not use it at all times of the year. But as we get trapped inside, we’ve noticed a sharp increase in usage. Probably a hundred 200 people a day use the facility, ”Hurley said. . “In addition, new membership registrations are being added.”

Similar to The Summit, Hurley says Fuel Fitness Kalispell sees gym attendants dwindle during the first few months of the new year.

“A lot of people are, they lose a little bit of motivation because they may not get the results they want to see,” Hurley said.

He added that the best way to prevent your gym cart from falling is to stay consistent with your workouts.
