FlickType developer suing Apple using the Apple Watch keyboard

In response to Apple Watch Series 7’s new QuickPath keyboard, the seemingly similar FlickType app developer has tweeted that it plans to take the new feature to court, if its current case goes to trial.

FlickType developer Kosta Eleftheriou has recently dropped the iPhone version of its app, citing issues with the App Store. Now, after Apple unveiled an on-screen keyboard for the FlickType-like Apple Watch, Eleftheriou turned to Twitter to oppose it.

This is the original letter of rejection received by Eleftheriou and it is not confirmed whether the emphasis is his or Apple’s. Either way, the key line of how the app was rejected specifically because it’s a keyboard for the Apple Watch.

In addition to tweeting “see you in court,” following the “California Streaming” event, Eleftheriou has already filed a lawsuit covering this issue. Filed in March 2021, it claims that Apple is abusing its market power.

“Apple’s promise to help developers build, test, market and distribute their products and grow their business through a secure, reliable and accessible market is just a façade designed to attract developers to the market. ‘App Store,’ says the lawsuit.

Eleftheriou’s FlickType was launched on the iPhone in 2018 and was later followed by a version of Apple Watch.
