FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Florida reported just over 100,000 new cases of COVID-19 last week, 33% less than last month’s rise.
The 100,012 new cases from September 3 to 9 are the lowest weekly total in the state since mid-July. Florida had three consecutive weeks with more than 150,000 new cases in August.
The new case positivity rate of 13.5% is also the lowest since mid-July, according to the new Florida Department of Health data report released Friday evening. (See the full report at the bottom of this page.)
The age group with the most new cases is still the population under 12 who are not fit to be vaccinated.
FDOH says 17,165 children under the age of 12 became infected with COVID-19 last week.
State data show that 69% of eligible Floridians (over the age of 12) have received at least one vaccine, a number of public health officials trying to increase. FDOH claims that 349,845 doses were administered last week, which is the lowest since mid-July.

Florida added 17,854 more COVID-19 cases and three additional virus-related fatalities in the most recent daily data released Friday by the CDC.
The daily increase in new cases is the highest in the state in more than a week (since September 2).
Florida has reached 3,409,012 cases and 48,276 COVID-19-related deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest CDC data.
Florida has experienced a marked decline in new cases and hospitalizations since mid-August, when an average of more than 21,000 new cases were recorded each day at the peak of the delta-driven summer rise.
Announcements
The current 7-day moving average for the state for new cases is 14,259, the lowest since late July. Last week, Florida accounted for about 10% of the nation’s new COVID cases.
August was the deadliest month of the pandemic in Florida, with at least 7,600 COVID-19-related fatalities, an average of more than 245 a day. It is likely that some deaths will still be reported, as mortality data often delay the recording of state metrics that are then reported to the CDC.
Due to this lag, the state’s weekly reports on deaths are incomplete, as more than 353 are likely to be added so far from September 3-9 in the coming days.
For example, on Thursday the state reported to the CDC a batch of 1,296 COVID-related deaths, a total spanning weeks ago.
Announcements
According to the Florida Hospital Association, 12,262 patients were admitted with COVID across the state on Thursday, which continued with a steady drop below the peak of the recent increase.
