In a statement Tuesday, Nika and Marrecus Johnson revealed that their son made a call to FaceTime with his teammates.
“We feel so much love and support from everyone and we are more than grateful for the care and attention Keyontae has received over the last few days,” the parents said.
Johnson’s parents traveled to Tallahassee to be with their son on Sunday, along with Florida head coach Mike White and associate athletic director Dave Werner, alongside Johnson, according to a team statement. On Monday, Johnson was transferred to UF Health in Gainesville, where he was still in critical but stable condition.
At this time it is not clear why it collapsed.
Johnson, the team’s top scorer and rebounder, averages 19.7 points and 6 rebounds per game this season. He had 5 points before collapsing, which after leaving the court were followed by his teammates and coach visibly shaken in prayer before resuming play. Florida State won the game 83-71.
Due to the circumstances surrounding Johnson, the Gators announced Tuesday that an agreement was reached with the University of North Florida Ospreys to postpone the basketball game scheduled for Wednesday.
