Florida offers itself as the venue for the Tokyo Olympics

Florida asked the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday that the state be regarded as venue for the relocation of the Olympic Games, In case the COVID-19 pandemic makes it difficult to hold in Tokyo.

Six months after the opening of the Games, Jimmy Patronis, Chief Financial Officer of the Government of Florida, Sent a letter to IOC President Thomas Bach for consideration “Moving the 2021 Tokyo Olympics to the United States, and more specifically to Florida”.

“With Japan reconsidering the Olympics, now is a good time for the IOC to deploy a site selection team in Florida. (Especially now that we’re about to host the Super Bowl LV), ”Patronis said Monday on his Twitter account.

The official says in the letter that given reports from Japanese leaders who conclude “in private” that they are too concerned about the pandemic, “There’s still time” to consider in the “tourist state” of Florida.

Similarly, the official presumes that, compared to other states — including New York — the Florida government did not prolong its economy for long and very quickly reactivated sporting events, such as football and basketball, the latter with the use of a “bubble” installed in the city of Orlando.

“In addition, our international tourist destinations, such as Disney parks, have been open and operating safely in Florida for some time,” Patronis noted.

The IOC intends to hold the Games, despite growing doubts and concerns about the uncontrollability of the global coronavirus pandemic.

the Olympic calendar is still pending postponements and cancellations which have in suspense, above all, the more than 4,700 athletes – out of a total of 11,092 who have yet to earn their Olympic place.
