SYDNEY – Former Olympic swimmer Scott Miller was arrested on Tuesday and charged with drug trafficking after Australian police seized methamphetamine valued at A $ 2 million ($ 1.6 million) and charged him with driving a criminal union.
Police arrested on Tuesday at their Sydney homes 45-year-old Miller and a 47-year-old man, who have not been named, after finding methamphetamine hidden in eight candles in January, according to a police statement.
Miller was the director of a criminal union, according to alleged superintendent of police detective John Watson.
“Others are supposed to work under his instruction,” Watson said.
The two men allegedly distributed drugs from Sydney on their way to the regional state of New South Wales.
“It wasn’t a small operation,” Watson said. “They were well organized and well funded.”
Miller won a silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. He was also a member of the Australian 4×100-meter relay team that won the bronze.
He also won a gold medal at the 100m butterfly world championship in Rio de Janeiro in 1995.
