Colton Underwood is gay.
The former “Bachelor” star came out to Robin Roberts in a pre-recorded “Good Morning America” interview that aired Wednesday morning.
“I’ve run away from myself for a long time,” he said. “She has been hating me for a long time. I agreed to this earlier this year and I have been processing it, and the next step in all of this was to inform people. “
Underwood, who realized he was “different” at 6, said he is now “the happiest and healthiest” he has ever been and admitted he was in a “dark and bad” place before he realized- if of its truth.
“Overall, the reason now is because I got to a place where … I’d rather die than say I’m gay,” he continued.
The former NFL player hinted that he even tried to commit suicide.
“There was a time in Los Angeles when I woke up and I didn’t think I would wake up,” he shared. “I did not intend to wake up. I think for me it was my touch of attention ”.
Underwood was last related to former Cassie Randolph, whom she met on season 23 of the ABC dating show.
During the interview, he apologized directly.
“I’d like to regret how things ended,” he said. “I got my foot in the door. I made a lot of bad decisions.”
Underwood admitted that he was in love with Randolph, which made his sexuality more difficult.
“It made me more confused,” he said. “I loved everything about her. … I wish this had been brave enough to fix me before breaking anyone. “
The former couple first separated in 2019 when they realized they were “not communicating,” but they learned to work on these issues and reunited.
They split once again in 2020, but the rupture took a dramatic turn. Months later, Randolph requested — and received — a restraining order against Underwood after she claimed to be pursuing her.
Randolph, 25, alleged that Underwood put a tracking device in the car and sent him “disturbing” text messages. Finally, he filed a police report on the alleged tracker.
He withdrew the restraining order in November.
“We were both able to reach a private agreement to address any of Cassie’s concerns,” Underwood, 29, told TMZ afterwards. “I don’t think Cassie did anything wrong in presenting the restraining orders and I also think she acted in good faith. I appreciate respect for everyone’s privacy in relation to this issue.”
Underwood also apologized to the women he hurt even appearing in “The Bachelor.”
“Am I sorry to be single? Am I sorry I manipulated him the same way I did? I do. I think I could have done better, ”he admitted. “I just wish I hadn’t dragged people into the mess of finding out who he was.
“… But I can sit here and say I’m sorry for all these women and I can also say thank you to them without them and without the ‘The Bachelor’ franchise, I don’t know if that would have come out.”
Underwood, who admitted he thanked God for taking him to “The Bachelor” because it meant he was “straight,” first appeared in Becca Kufrin’s 2018 season of “The Bachelorette”.
