The former Colombian footballer John Viafara, Was sentenced to 135 months in prison, just over 11 years, for participating in drug trafficking with Mexican cartels in Sinaloa and the Gulf, according to South American media such as Antena Dos and Olé.
Viafara who had a career of about 17 years, playing in Colombia, Spain and England, pleaded guilty in a court of Texas, For possessing more than five kilos of cocaine and this is where the rest of the investigation was triggered.
“Viáfara participated in the logistical preparations for the shipment of large shipments of cocaine by plane or ship from Colombia to Mexico, through Central America, for later distribution within the United States,” it was reported through a statement from the Prosecutor’s Office.
The main function of the footballer was to coordinate routes along the Pacific coast, pay distributors and negotiate with the Sinaloa and Pacific posters.
