The player was injured in a shooting in December; police gave no further information on the causes of his death
JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Former Notre Dame and NFL football player Louis Neix, who was reported missing earlier in the week and found dead Saturday. He was 29 years old. The cause of death was not reported.
Nix’s family reported his disappearance to police Wednesday. After several days of searching, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office tweeted at 8 a.m. Saturday that Nix was located, but did not report his condition.
Irish wrestler and coach Brian Kelly shared a video on Twitter of some of his fond memories with Nix.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Nix was last seen at 10 a.m. Wednesday, after leaving his father’s residence in Jacksonville. Kelly sent a tweet Saturday morning asking for help from the public to find him.
Nix was injured in a shooting in December while serving his car at a gas station near Jacksonville Airport. He shared on social media that he spent 10 days in the hospital and that a bullet bounced off his sternum and entered his lung.
Nix performed at Raines High School in Jacksonville and played three seasons at Notre Dame before being selected in the third round by the Houston jeans in 2014. Nix, 1 defensive tackle, never played a game for the Texans due to knee injuries and played in just four games in 2015 for the New York Giants. He also spent time in Washington and internship squads Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016.
