BARCELONA – The Barçagate plot discovered about a year ago led to the arrest this Monday, as part of the investigation carried out by the court, of the former president of Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu and the still general director of the club Òscar Grau, the person in charge of the legal services Román Gómez Ponti and the one that was personal adviser of the maximum president Jaume Masferrer.
Two members of the Mossos d’Esquadra in the area of economic crimes, the Catalan police, showed up early in the morning at the club’s offices to carry out various searches in various offices, closing the building and banning entry to anyone, including employees who had not yet arrived, and not allowing those present to leave the premises, isolating several executives who had their computers intercepted while confiscating various material.
In parallel with the intervention in the offices of Barcelona, another endowment of the Catalan police moved to the home of Bartomeu, where he was arrested after the former president contacted his lawyer how much was directed at police stations to take his statement, possibly on Tuesday.
Alejandra Gil, head of court 13 of the Barcelona High Court, decided in mid-February to continue the investigations under summary secrecy, warning that testimonial evidence should be received after ‘evidence was warned in September of corruption ‘in the bills that were divided below 200 thousand euros for not passing any control. In fact, the judge already warned that she was not finding the collaboration expected by the club, which would have led to the action this Monday.
The audit launched by Bartomeu’s board ruled out any guilt in the board, resolving only the suspension of employment (and subsequent dismissal) of compliance officer Noelia Romero long after six managers (Emili Roussaud, Enrique Tombas, Silvio Elías, Josep Pont, Maria Teixidor and Jordi Calsamiglia) submitted their resignations in what was the beginning of the scandal.
Increasingly pointed out through a motion of censure initiated against him, Bartomeu resolved to resign from the presidency, along with his board of directors, defending his work at the helm of the club and convinced that he had acted “always “under the strictest legality in the case … which has finally led to his arrest in a new script twist.
