The Secretary of Health, Carlos Mellado, announced this Friday the appointment of Carles Rodríguez Mateo as the new head of the Administration of Mental Health and Addiction Services (ASSMCA).
Rodriguez Mateo was rejected by the public when he aspired to a new term in the last four years as a senator by accumulation. He came sixteenth out of 17 candidates, according to results from the State Election Commission.
“The governor of Puerto Rico has recommended Dr. Rodríguez Mateo to lead the efforts of ASSMCA. Rodríguez Mateo is a doctor by profession and holds a master’s degree in public health, strategic governance, public administration and political management and decision-making. the senator has studied and legislated initiatives to address ASSMCA-related issues such as the problem of suicides, the high rate of methadone use and the abuse of narcotic drugs, ”Mellado said in written statements.
Rodríguez Mateo was also mayor of Salines and established the Primary Services Center with other doctors WITH–For sure.
ASSMCA is an office attached to the Department of Health created by Act 67 of August 7, 1993 and is responsible for programs and services related to mental health, drug addiction, and alcoholism.
