Dr. Anthony Fossy predicted on Monday that the U.S. herd would be able to achieve immunity against Covit-19 “by the end of the second quarter of 2021” after vaccines were widely used.
Speaking to MSNBC’s Holly Jackson, Fassi – who is also the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases – said that “depending on the effectiveness of the roll” the Covid-19 vaccine should be widely available to most Americans in the spring.
Depending on whether they can trust enough people to be vaccinated, he said, “by the end of March, in early April, there will be normal healthy males and females on the street without basic conditions. “
Fossy hopes that by late spring or early summer, the United States will reach the “umbrella of herd immunity”.
“When we fall, we can begin to approach some relief where the level of infection in society is very low, and we can basically start to approach some kind of normalcy,” he told Jackson.
He said extraordinary public health activities such as mask use, event cancellation and improved hygiene would continue “for several months in the second half and beyond 2021”.
“Only if you reduce the level of infections in the community can it no longer be a public health threat, and then you can think about the possibility of withdrawing from public health activities,” Fucci said.
In order to encourage others, Fassi also volunteered to be vaccinated in public as soon as possible.
“Once my turn comes, it will be very soon. I’m going to be available for vaccination in general so people can see that I feel strongly that this is something we need to do.”
