Protesters clashed with law enforcement in front of police headquarters in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota for the fourth night in a row Wednesday after the Sunday murder of 20-year-old black man Daunte Wright. The former white officer who shot him during a traffic stop was charged Wednesday with second-degree homicide.
Kim Potter, a 26-year veteran, was arrested and later released from prison a few hours later after being released on $ 100,000 bail.
Authorities said deputies, soldiers and officers were “shot Wednesday night with industrial-sized fireworks, spray paint, rocks and other items.” Twenty-four people were arrested. There were 40 arrests on Monday night and 79 on Tuesday night.
Police used occasional tear gas, according to CBS Minnesota. Some officers sprayed a chemical against protesters who approached the fence surrounding the building.
Potter, 48, resigned Tuesday from the Minneapolis suburban police department along with the city’s police chief.
Police stopped Wright for expiring the tags on Sunday and found he had a pending order. As police tried to grab him, Wright jumped into his car. The former police chief said Potter thought he grabbed her in Taser, but instead pulled out his gun and then fired the deadly shot.
