Freddy Peralta Luis Uries lead Brewers past Cubs

MILWAUKEE: Freddy Peralta is 24 years old. This is easy to forget when he has already released parts of four seasons in Brewers uniform and this year he has still tried to prove that he belonged to the initial rotation.

Luis Urías is 23 years old. He retired a couple of seasons from being the 23rd best baseball prospect for MLB Pipeline, and had such a miserable introduction to the brewing organization in 2020 as it could be achieved. There was a broken hand, a case of COVID-19, and then a couple of months quiet on a utility paper.

But there is a place for patience with players talented enough to reach the Major Leagues when they are barely old enough to toast. The brewers’ patience with Peralta has paid off. They hope Monday’s 6-3 win over the Cubs at American Family Field will demonstrate the start of something similar for Uriah.

“I think Milwaukee brewers will always have to commit to young players,” manager Craig Counsell said the other day.

Peralta and Uriah led the way to Milwaukee’s fifth win in the last six games, all against rivals Cubs and Cardinals. Peralta destroyed 10 batters in six more electric innings and marched as part of the Brewers ’six-race rally at the bottom of the sixth. Urías, who came off a road trip by 1 to 21, achieved the biggest success of the entry: a three-run double that gave the Brewers an advantage.
