One of the great multiplayer games of the year has come out, but inevitably some of your friends won’t have dropped their cash yet. Well don’t worry, you can show them the ropes from now until next Thursday for free in the multiplayer of Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. You can download Cold War to play Holiday Playlists, Standard Deathmatch, Near Hunt and other modes for free this week.
The free play week is presented in two phases, starting with a handful of game modes and playlists during this weekend and expanding with a few more options next week. Right now you can log in and play Team Deathmatch, Domination, 2v2 Gunfight, the Nuketown Holiday 24/7 playlist and the Raid the Mall playlist. Starting Monday, Dec. 21, you’ll also have access to Prop Hunt, Combined Arms: Hardpoint, and Fireteam: Dirty Bomb. Free play status ends on Thursday, December 24th.

“Where the Cold War breaks out on its own is in its emphasis on gun battles,” Ed says. “When I left the Modern Warfare super sprint, I found that the parties were moving at a less disorienting pace. They’re not full of athletes flipping around the corners and walking around the boxes, but average people who just want a fair bit. This opens up more opportunities for duels, where I will exchange shots with an enemy until one of us hits the concrete. Basically, it’s a much cleaner matter and I’m much more inclined to go back to it over and over again. “
He wasn’t so interested in the 40-person team-based Dirty Bomb mode giant, saying that “every second I spent in this game mode was painful, in part because it never seemed to end, but mostly because it felt — taking on Warzone.” Maybe you have a few good rounds of prop hunting when Monday rounds, hm?
Whether you have downloaded the Cold War for free or already own it, Activision says it will also benefit you from a double xp progression, xp weapon and battle pass from today until Monday 21. It will be recovered on Tuesday 22 , with double bonuses in Call Of Duty: Warzone on the 25th. You can catch all the skinny dates and times in the Activision post.
