There’s a different feel to Marcus Freeman’s time, specifically on the recruiting track. With the prestige of the Notre Dame program, much more attention has been paid to the new defensive coordinator on the recruiting court. This was shown this evening when Harold Perkins, of Texas, spoke with Freeman and later received an offer.
Perkins becomes the 19th best player in the country and the best outside defender according to the 247Sports compound. This offer, six feet to three inches and weighs 200 pounds, is important.
There seems to be a change in philosophy as to who the Irish offer. Freeman has been looking for high-level players like Perkins, no doubt a difference from when Clark Lea made the offers.
Obviously, there was a difference in talent levels when the Irish ended up losing their last two games of the season to Clemson and Alabama. Perkins has the ability to play at any school in the country. Now the Irish have incorporated their offer and a change of guard has been made. Freeman and Brian Kelly can only get good things in their new recruiting philosophy.
