From Axl’s new Super to Nagoriyuki’s double-edged sword blood mechanics, 4 takeaways from Guilty Gear Strive’s latest showcase

A whole host of new Guilty Gear Strive footage fell yesterday when GameSpot launched nine minutes of play with Ky, Sol, Axl, Zato-1 and newcomer Nagoriyuki.

No doubt we noticed Ky Kiske’s new Dragon Install technique, but Rooflemonger details this and three other takeaways from the showcase, one of which is an update on how the brand’s mechanical and vampire mechanic works. of Nagoriyuki blood.

The cyber vampire has certain intrigues, as it is one of the additions to the Strive list in the Guilty Gear franchise and has a unique mechanic that serves as a double-edged sword: its manometer. This indicator fills up throughout the fight and gives the character turbo-charged abilities, but it also clears his life continuously if filled up.

Rooflemonger points out a fairly important update of this mechanics compared to what little we’ve seen before, especially as the indicator gradually fills up instead of instantaneous chunks. There’s a lot more about this fighter as it was used in the showcase, such as the potential properties of the berserk mode activation sequence, but we’ll let the content creator explain the details.

Another of the main points of interest in the images is the showcase of the new Axl Low Super Stop time. The character who returns to Guilty Gear now has the ability to freeze his opponents instead to prepare for a tough combo of his choice.

Of course, we only have images to analyze here, but it looks like this Super needs to be stored before it can be implemented into action. Axl stores the technique and gets a purple glow around it to indicate that it is now in play (not everything that is different from M. Bison’s V-Skill 2 in Street Fighter 5), but then activates it and freezes his enemy seemingly anywhere on the screen.

During the footage, the maneuver is used while opponents are stunned by previous attacks, which leads us to speculate that Axl will not be able to activate it at any time and make it work. Enemies may be able to block freezing if they are not trapped in the middle of a combo or in some kind of long start-up or recovery of the animation of one of their own attacks.
