Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, owner of Houston furniture store known for making giant sports bets, has so far placed the biggest bet on the Super Bowl LV: $ 3.46 million down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at +3.5.
McIngvale flew to Colorado Springs on Tuesday, logged into the DraftKings mobile betting app from the airport and made one of the biggest bets in the Super Bowl. After paying a little more juice (-127) to get the Bucs to +3.5, McIngvale would earn $ 2.72 million if Tampa Bay covered the spread.
“Tampa Bay is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball and is led by the best football player of all time at Tom Brady, so I’m betting heavily on the Bucs that have overcome tough clashes throughout this postseason,” said McIngvale at the launch of DraftKings.
McIngvale routinely uses the betting market to mitigate the risk of sales promotions in its furniture store. He had more than $ 11 million at stake in the 2019 World Series between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals, including a $ 3.5 million future bet on the Astros that he placed with DraftKings in Biloxi, Mississippi.
The Astros fell short, losing to the Nationals in seven games.
“Mack has been a big customer and is someone we have a history with after taking his considerable bet on the World Series a couple of seasons ago,” said Johnny Avello, director of sports books at DraftKings.
This year, Gallery Furniture customers who spend $ 3,000 or more on a new mattress will get their money back if the Buccaneers win the Kansas City heads on Sunday.
The two most important Super Bowl bets so far have both been at Bucs. In addition to McIngvale’s $ 3.46 million bet, last week he bet with BetMGM in Nevada a $ 2.3 million bet on Tampa Bay.
The most important Super Bowl bet ever recorded, in terms of amount risk, is believed to be a $ 4.8 million bet on the Rams to beat the Patriots of Super Bowl XXXVL which was placed on MGM in Las Vegas in 2002. The Patriots upset the Rams 20-17.
Despite the two multimillion-dollar bets on this year’s Super Bowl Ships, the bulk of the action has been on the Chiefs favorites. As of Wednesday at U.S. sports bookstores in William Hill, 82% of the money that had been bet on the distribution of the Super Bowl point was in Kansas City.
