In February he helped his stepmother Jaya come out as transgender.

Taraji b. Gabriel Union is now open about the struggles of the thirteen-year-old face before coming out during a appearance on Henson’s Facebook Watch show Peace of Mind.

The 48-year-old actress revealed that before social media, when social media users began to speculate about her gender, she felt ‘out’.

‘Chaya’s silence is undeniable,’ Gabriel asserted.

‘As Jaya added more language she was able to tell about her identity. She was able to tell us about her sex. She was able to say “I trance”. ‘

Union’s stepmother, whom she shares with her husband Dwayne Wade, admitted that she came out several times, against choice and against her will.

“I’ve been out a few times, I came out to my teacher in third grade, and then when you posted a picture of me in Chicago at my birthday party,” Union explained.

Despite the Pring It On star claiming to support young people for Jaya and other transgender people, she admitted that she is still learning about gender identity and parenting.

“We only know what we know, and we must be open to embracing what we do not know,” he said.

Elsewhere in the interview, he struck a proud note when it was revealed that Jaya had started cheerleading.

‘She’s good to bring it!’ Kirsten Dunst also mentions her breakout role in the 2000 cheerleading comedy film Bring It On.

In addition to Jaya, he shares his two-year-old daughter, Gavia, with Wade, and he is the stepmother to his children, Xavier Zachariah, 7, and Jair, 18.
