Before I get into the news … I just want to say how much I like the name “NXT 2.0” that WWE has recently introduced for the makeover they give to their third brand.
As much as my heart always belongs to the black and gold spectacle of the mid and late 2010s era, I am still willing to give the new, more colorful, youth- and size-oriented NXT a try. . But this “2.0” business is silly. For one thing, it seems old-fashioned … who is promoting things with their version history right now? AOL? Of course, there are still figures involved in versions of the operating system, but marketing went from “dot oh” billing to the beginnings of the Internet.
Plus, there’s the fact that if we’re really tracking, it would be more like NXT 5.0 (fake reality show, YouTube run, exclusive streaming, Wednesday Night War, then what we’re getting tonight). Ahem. Sorry. Anyway …
One of the matches organized last week for tonight’s renewal (September 14) was a women’s title match between champion Raquel González and Franky Monet. According to a report this afternoon from Fightful Select, this no longer takes place this week.
No reason was given for the change. And honestly, it’s not a big loss. The party met late and seemed like a way to burn a challenge from Monet through the old NXT marching orders.
Still, combine it with Samoa Joe leaving the men’s title vacant on Sunday, and the fact that Triple H probably won’t be available for filming today due to his recent health issues, you can see why Fightful also reports that the NXT list feels “trepidation” toward renewal.
Join our live blog tonight and we’ll all be excited about version 2.0.
