The problems of next-generation actions continue
A continuing headache for video game buyers remains the shortage of next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S platforms. a few minutes, inevitably leaving customers disappointed and frustrated.
However, adding fury to the mix is adding “scalpers,” individuals or groups who buy multiple consoles en masse, before offering them immediately for resale, often at hugely inflated prices. Although scalping has been predominant in retail for decades, modern technology has made the practice more difficult to combat than ever, due to the creation of bot software that performs the sales process automatically.
Earlier this week, British retailer GAME took stock of its latest batch of PS5 consoles, which naturally sold out in no time. Shortly afterwards, a scalper company turned to Twitter to claim that it had successfully acquired more than 2,000 consoles for sale, using its bot software. Other Twitter users also claimed to have packed several PS5 units, most with a flammable and antagonistic attitude that makes the claims harder to believe.
After pressuring a group of complaints against GAME for this result, the retailer contacted VGC to assure its customers that the next-generation GAME ordering process remains blocked.
“Those on PlayStation 5 continue to have very high demand and that demand far exceeds current supply,” a GAME spokesman said. “We have solid measures in place to help ensure that our“ 1 per customer ”statement is maintained to allow as many individual customers to purchase as successfully as possible … All pre-orders are subject to automatic checks and order updates, such as cancellations after these checks: will occur after a customer has received a valid order confirmation email. At this time, these orders are still pre-orders and therefore not yet payments have been made by customers. Payments will start once the order has been placed “.
Whenever there is demand for some items (from consoles, concert tickets, limited edition clothing, and even toys), scalping will continue to be a frustrating part of the online retail process. In the end, everyone wants to buy a PS5 or an Xbox Series X / S will have a chance to do it, sooner or later. But the breathless rush for retailers looks set to continue for the time being, little different from that all major console releases from decades past.
Death, taxes, and your connection are exhausted.
