Andrew Eyster and the Gamecocks did it again, leaving the Tigers at the end of the final inning.
A day after winning 3-2 in a single walk-off of Eyster at the end of the 11th, Eyster stroked a single to score the winning run at the end of the ninth, as South Carolina’s No. 17 defeated at Clemson 8-7 Sunday afternoon at Founders Park.
Clemson unloader Evan Estridge he walked between two outings, but gave up the game’s winning success at Eyster. South Carolina improved to 6-0 with the win and won the season series. Clemson falls to 3-2 with defeat. The final game of the series will be played on May 11 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson.
The Tigers wasted no time in jumping to a quick lead. Bryar Hawkins he tied at two at the top of the first and came to score twice in the center left James Parker, giving Clemson the 1-0 lead.
Red Wes Clarke scored in a 1-1 at the end of the third to tie the score at 1-1 and held on until the top of the fifth.
Dylan Brewer took a walk on a 3-2 playing field to deflect from the entrance and, with an outside, Hawkins chose on the right side to move Brewer to third place. Hawkins stole second with two out, and Jonathan French It was followed by a two-run double on the right that gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead.
The advantage did not last long, as the Gamecocks chased the headline Ty Olenchuk at the bottom of the frame. Braylen Wimmer scored a header to deflect from the entrance, and later at the entrance Clarke threw a three-run shot to give the Gamecocks a 5-3 lead.
Olenchuk threw 4 1/3 innings, giving up two runs without walking any and eliminating six. Liberator Mat Clark he gave up most of the damage, being marked by three runs in just 1/2/3 of games.
The seventh was a great inning for the Tigers. Davis Sharpe he walked to deviate from the entrance, but was forced in the second to a field by Hawkins. Parker then chose the left field and French went on foot to load the bases with an outside. Chopper Alex Urban was confident in a single that Hawkins scored to make it 5-4.
Chopper Regan Reid tied a single in the middle, scoring French and Parker to make it 6-5 for Clemson. Max Wagner executed a perfect tackle that scored Urban, and Clemson led 7-5.
The Gamecocks took advantage of a throwing error in the bottom half of the inning to score two runs, however, tying the game at 7-7.
The Tigers were the beneficiaries of a strong break at the top of the ninth. Parker walked through the middle and hit a great fly to the center, and it looked as if the wind was moving baseball enough to cause center Noah Myers to drop it by mistake.
The French scored, but Urban played a single on the right to put the runners in the first and second with an out. The Gamecocks went to the bullring, replacing Andrew Peters with Will Sanders. Reid opted for a football field that forced Reid, but moved Parker to third with two outs. A fly ball ended the threat, but left the game tied at 7-7.
South Carolina plays Winthrop (the Gamecocks hosted the Eagles last week and won 12-4) on Tuesday and then hosted Mercer for a three-game series starting Friday. The Tigers will host East Tennessee Stadium at 4 p.m. Tuesday and then begin playing the ACC on Friday with a three-game home series against Notre Dame.
