Gavin Newsom California remembers election results – see map

It’s decision day in the nation’s most populous state, as Californians vote in the run-off of first-term Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Two questions are asked of voters at the Newsom withdrawal polls. The first question is whether the governor should be removed from office. If more than 50% support the removal of Newsom, the second question offers a list of 46 candidate candidates to replace the governor.

Newsom, who was overwhelmingly elected governor in 2018 in the very blue state of California, faces a withdrawal caused last year mainly by allegations of having mismanaged his state’s response to the coronavirus. The effort to oust the governor was fueled by the state’s strict COVID restrictions on companies and houses of worship, school closures, as well as opposition to high state taxes and criticism of the state. If the governor is remembered, the candidate who gets the most votes in the second question, regardless of whether he is a majority or just a small plurality, Newsom would succeed.

Ballots were sent last month to the 22 million registered voters in California and must be stamped or delivered for ballot box closing.
