Gayle King says Prince Harry is glad he started talks with Princes Charles and William after Oprah’s interview

Prince Harry has been in contact with his father Prince Charles and his older brother, Prince William, for the first time since his and Meghan’s pioneering interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this month, “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King said Tuesday.

These conversations were not productive, the couple told King over the weekend.

However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they were happy to have started a dialogue with the royal family and wanted the family to be healed.

King said the family has not yet contacted Meghan after the two-hour interview.

Harry had told Winfrey that he had a difficult relationship with his father after his and Meghan’s decision step back of their roles as members of the senior family in early 2020.

“When we were in Canada, I had three conversations with my grandmother and two with my father,” he said, adding “before I stopped receiving my calls.”

Although the duke said he has since resumed talking to his father, he was “disappointed” by Charles’ past experience with Harry’s late mother. Princess Diana, and its relationship with the UK tabloids.

The prince was reportedly “upset” and “cut off” from hearing what his young son was saying and ignored a journalist’s question about it the day after the interview aired in Britain.

As for Prince William, who ranks second on the throne, Harry classified his current relationship as “space.”

Through the interview, Meghan also challenged a previous complaint that William’s wife, Kate, made Meghan cry a few days before her wedding, claiming that the reality was the other way around.

She and Harry also compared Meghan’s harsh treatment by British tabloids to Kate’s, claiming that racism played a role in covering the Duchess of Sussex. They accused the palace of not defending it as they had the Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince William they told reporters members of the royal family were not “almost a racist family” after the interview. Buckingham Palace issued a statement calling the couple’s allegations, especially those of race, “worrying.”

“I think what still bothers them is that the palace keeps saying they want to work on it in private, but still, there are fake stories that are still despicable against Meghan,” King said.

Shortly before the interview, it was revealed that Buckingham Palace is also studying the allegations of intimidation made against Meghan by the royal aides. The palace has hired an external law firm to examine the claims.

King said the couple “will not be part of this investigation.”

Still, the co-host of “CBS This Morning” said Harry and Meghan expect a less contentious relationship with the prince’s relatives.

“They both want to move forward with that and they both want to heal in this family,” King said.
