A weekend crossover event among the popular Genshin impact and Kentucky Fried Chicken had to be locked up in Shanghai and Hangzhou locations after violating measures to prevent China’s covid-19, the fast food chain announced on Chinese social networking site Weibo today.

Genshin impactKFC-themed restaurants across China drew huge crowds overnight as fans lined up to have a chance to score special pins with playable characters Diluc and Noelle, which over the past month have been used to promote the continuous crossing.

According to industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, customers they were asked to call, “Meet in another world, enjoy delicious food!” to employees to get a pin with the food.

While some may consider their strict blocking tactics dominant, China has largely controlled the pandemic within its borders after the global outbreak that began in Wuhan City a year ago. Life has returned mostly to normal, at least compared to the United States.

It is unclear what specific mandate or guideline these KFC meetings were violating, but it is understandable that the Chinese authorities were reluctant to allow the congregation of mass masses for hours.

Genshin impact developer miHoYo recently dit which plans to bring the game’s exclusive items currently on offer as part of this KFC crossover — which include a red and white glider skin and special recipes — to players around the world at some point in the future.
