Georgetown law professor Sandra Sellers was fired for commenting on black students

Georgetown Law has fired an adjunct professor and left another on leave for statements about black college students. Sandra Sellers, who is white, said during a Zoom call recorded, “I don’t like to say that. I end up having this anxiety every semester that many of my inferiors are black. It happens almost every semester. And it’s like, ‘Oh, come on.’ there are simple ones at the bottom. It drives me crazy. ” He apologized in a resignation letter: “I would never do anything to intentionally hurt my students or Georgetown Law and I wish I could get my words back. Regardless of my intention, I have done irreparable harm and I am truly sorry. ” David Batson, also a participant in the call, has been put on leave. Georgetown University’s Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Affirmative Action has opened an investigation. Dean of law school William Treanor called the comments “reprehensible.”
