Ghost of Tsushima: The director’s cut is excellent, but Sony should not charge more for the PS5 upgrade

Ghost of Tsushima PS5 version update

If you have read our document Ghost of Tsushima: Review’s Cut review, you know we are great fans of the new Iki Island expansion. We would go so far as to say that Jin’s new offshore adventure is worth only the price of admission, but the reality of the situation is not that simple. Having played the full expansion on PlayStation 5, there’s no doubt that Sony is charging too much for the next-generation upgrade, and it’s not looking good.

This whole debate erupted again when Director’s Cut was first announced. We wrote a surprisingly controversial reaction article, which said that Sony’s approach to this particular update was wrong, and that we now believe this initial take has been validated. Simply put, Sony shouldn’t charge more for the PS4 to PS5 upgrade of Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut.

The following features are exclusive to Director’s Cut for PS5:

  • Slightly higher resolution
  • Instant charge time
  • DualSense driver haptic feedback
  • Complete synchronization of Japanese lips

Essentially, Sony says these unique features are worth the extra dosh. And, to be fair, the haptic comments are pretty interesting (as stated in our review). But you can’t prevent other developers from implementing similar PS5 updates Free. Heck, some studies have gone further; Metro Exodus received haptic feedback i a full graphics review with its PS5 update, and gamers didn’t have to pay a dime if they already had the game on PS4. And this is just one example of many.

The bottom line is that we’re perfectly fine paying for the expansion of Iki Island – it’s excellent. But if you want to upgrade Ghost of Tsushima PS4 to Director’s Cut PS5, you’re required to pay an additional $ 10 (it costs $ 19.99 to upgrade from PS4 to PS4). Sony is squeezing portfolios here, and it’s very hard to justify.

In fact, Digital Foundry technology executives agree. In their latest video, they review everything Director’s Cut does on PS5 and come to the same conclusion. Except you really Consider this haptic feedback, or the full sync of Japanese lips, then you can also grab Director’s Cut on PS4 for $ 10 less.
