An influential Chinese man known as “Glacier Bro” is believed to have died after he was last seen in a video losing his balance near the icy waters of Tibet.
Wang Xiangjun, who got online tracking by posting videos of glaciers, was exploring a waterfall when he disappeared on Dec. 20 in Lhari County, northern Tibet, the BBC reported.
Videos posted on Chinese social media platforms showed the 30-year slip near the base of the waterfall into the cold, chilly waters, the dam reported.
Local authorities said they launched search initiatives but could not find it.
A local official involved in the efforts, however, said it was “almost impossible” for the influencer to survive.
“It simply came to our notice then. The water is 10 to 20 meters (32 to 65 feet) deep, “the official told China’s state-run Global Times.
His brother posted a statement on Wang’s social media accounts confirming his death, the Independent reported.
“My brother stays forever at his favorite waterfall,” the message read.
“He was obsessed with glaciers all his life while devoting himself to them, and that was the best place to rest,” he continued.
