A GoFundMe campaign launched by the son of a shot victim in Atlanta has raised more than $ 1.5 million from 38,000 donors in the 19 hours following its release.
Why it’s important: Hyun Jung Grant, 51, was one of six Asian women killed during a mess at Gold Spa Tuesday night. In all, eight people died.
- Grant’s identity was released Friday, along with details about the other victims.
- On Friday, in an update, her son Randy Park thanked the donors and said, “My mom can rest easy knowing I have the support of the world with me.”
What it says: In his initial GoFundMe message, Park told his mother “one of my best friends and the strongest influence on who we are today.”
- Grant was a single mother who was left alone and had two children in the United States
- “Losing it has put a new lens on me about the amount of hatred that exists in our world.”
- Park applied for funds for basic living needs.
On Friday, Park updated the page with a post expressing his gratitude.
- “Thank you to everyone and please share the care and kindness you have shown here to anyone you know who is afraid or unsure of the world we live in,” he added.
