Google and Alphabet Inc. Microsoft Corp. is among the more than 960 organizations and individuals who have donated more than $ 200 for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, according to a list released by the committee organizing the event.
The committee did not list the individual totals or provide additional details about the donations.
There are other companies that gave Qualcomm Inc., cable suppliers Comcast Corp. i Charter Communications Inc., Boeing Co. and insurer Anthem Inc. The inaugural presidential committee also received donations from the American Federation of Teachers and the United Food and Commercial Workers.
Notable people who gave were former California Sen. Barbara Boxer and singer Barbra Streisand.
For the people, the inaugural committee only provided the state where the people live. On April 15, it will have to report to the Federal Electoral Commission for detailed information on employers and donor addresses.
The inauguration, which had already been drastically reduced due to the coronavirus pandemic, will take place under particularly tight security. It comes just days after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building in a riot that left five dead, including police officers.
In his last message before Twitter banned Trump, he said he would not attend. Vice President Mike Pence will break up with the president and attend, however, two people familiar with his plans said.
Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris had asked Americans to stay home on Jan. 20 and virtually mark their investiture.
After consulting with public health officials, the Presidential Inaugural Committee said it would not hold the traditional mass rally at the National Mall. The committee also announced that the traditional parade following the inauguration of the Capitol at the White House will be “reinvented.” Few details have been released about the day, including how Biden will deliver his inaugural speech.
