Google mocks Apple’s design videos, Jony Ive, in a new headset ad

Google has released a satirical ad for Apple’s mocking Pixel 5a headphone jack, though that feature is really absent from Google’s flagship Pixel devices.

The announcement, titled “The Circle Comes Full Circle,” announces the apparent symmetry and perfection of the 3.5mm headphone jack of the newly launched Pixel 5a with 5G. The commercial is an obvious satire of Apple’s design videos, Jony Ive.

“Calling this perfectly symmetrical technological marvel, a‘ headphone jack ’may seem like an understatement … but technically, that’s what it’s called, so … fair enough,” says the video’s description. “Here it is! The headphone jack, on the Google Pixel 5th with 5G.”

Google’s ad isn’t subtle with its attempt to parody the tone and voice of Jony Ive’s classic design clips. There are intentional moments of excess, including the use of a docking space station to demonstrate the tactical feedback of a physical headphone port.

However, while Google claims that the headset is a “glorious success that is drawn from our past as it pushes us into the future,” it seems that this future does not include their smartphones.

While the mid-range Google Pixel 5a with 5G includes a headphone jack, the Google Pixel 5 does not. Current rumors also suggest that the upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also lack the 3.5mm analog port. Apparently, “the future” only applies to Google’s mid-range.
