Although cloud games seem to be slowly becoming one what, today has experienced a minor setback.
Google’s cloud-based service, Stadia, has officially closed its in-house studios and will no longer develop its own games to advance. In fact, not even a game came out the door.
Kotaku was the first to report the news and this was followed by an official Google announcement.
While the technology “has been proven and works on a large scale,” the reasoning behind the decision is due to the costs and the company’s decision to focus on supporting its long-term partners:
“Creating the best games in its category from scratch requires many years and a significant investment and the cost increases exponentially. Given our focus on building Stadia’s proven technology and deepening our business alliances, we have decided that we will not invest more. by providing exclusive content from our SG&E internal development team, beyond any short-term planned game. “
“We see an important opportunity to work with partners looking for a gaming solution based on Stadia’s advanced technical infrastructure and platform tools. We believe this is the best way to build Stadia into a long-term sustainable business that helps make grow the industry “.
Industry veteran Jade Raymond, who signed on with Google to create games, will continue to look for other opportunities, while Google says it will find the rest of its talented team positions in the company.
Cloud games recently made their way to Nintendo Switch in the west, with the release of Control. Then was recently released the release of Hitman 3.
At the end of its statement, Google says it remains “committed” to the future of cloud gaming and will continue to do its part to drive this industry forward.
“Our goal remains focused on creating the best possible platform for players and technology for our partners, bringing these experiences to life for people everywhere.”
