Google is reportedly testing a new one mobile search function this would surface TikTok and Instagram videos on its own dedicated carousel: the search giant’s apparent response to a growing appetite for short video content.

The new feature will be expanded with a test feature launched by Google earlier this year that nested a “Short Videos” carousel on the custom Google Discover tab. Although the original version of the feature had focused on aggregating video from Google-owned platforms such as YouTube and the Tangi short video project, it appears that Instagram and TikTok content will be included in the update.

This measure is likely designed to help Google maintain usageThose who just want to leave their eyes bright and see a cat in pajama pants for a few minutes as an excuse to stop hearing anything for a while, that is. everyone. Of course, when a user clicks on a short video of the carousel, they will be directed to a web version of their native platform instead of being transported to their respective app, which means users will be more likely to press the button Back and forth to Google from what will fall into an endless scrolling hole.

A Google spokesman confirmed this TechCrunch that the feature is currently being tested on mobile devices, but said the carousel is still in its early stages and does not yet appear next to all search queries.

The new “Short Videos” carousel is still completely separate from the “Stories” feature that Google introduced for its iOS and Android search app in October 2020. Formerly known as “AMP Stories,” the stories consist of content compiled by a short list of Google’s digital publishing partners, which includes Forbes, USA Today, Vice, Now This, Bustle, Thrillist, and others.
