The current government, chaired by Luis Abinader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), has set a new date for the signing of the postponed National Pact for the Reform of the Electricity Sector.
After showing his desire and willingness for the pact to be signed in December 2020, this Wednesday the Minister of the Presidency, Lisandro Macarrulla, said that is scheduled to sign by the end of this month.
“Everything seems to indicate that we will reach a happy term with respect to the pact before the end of January. This is the hope we have from the government team that is participating in this consensus that we want to reach in Dominican society regarding a problem that has been affecting us historically and that for the first time a light is seen at the end of the tunnel “, Macarrulla stated during a press conference at the Palau Nacional in which the Government reported on the economic results of the year past.

Prior to this, the President referred to information published today in a national media that states that in the first months of the current Government’s management the number of employees in two of the electricity distribution companies (EDE) has increased, which has increased payroll spending.
In this respect Abinader indicated that in the EDE there are 355 fewer employees and stressed that before each distributor had a payroll and that “all this has been dismantled.”
He added that the EDE financial deficit was reduced from RD $ 907 million RD $ 800 million, to a saving of more than RD $ 100 million.
He also indicated that “for the first time in history” the current debt with electricity generating companies does not exceed 30 days and that the collection of the three distributors increase by $ 150 million.
