All Florida residents over the age of 18 will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine beginning April 5th, Governor Ron DeSantis announced Thursday.
DeSantis made the announcement in a video posted from the governor’s office, which said the eligibility age would be reduced to 40 years and older from Monday before lowering it to all adults the following week. .
“We have now vaccinated more than 70% of the approximately 4.4 million elderly people living in the state,” DeSantis said. “And we’re ready to take that step.”
DeSantis added that more than 400 Walgreens locations would provide vaccines in the coming days, adding to the more than 700 Publix locations, 150 CVS locations and 125 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations statewide.
“We’ve made great strides and I hope to continue working hard to make sure everyone in Florida who wants a shot can get a shot,” DeSantis said, adding that no state mandate would be put in place that requires a vaccine.
