Governor will issue new Executive Order on Monday

The Secretary of the Department of Health, Carlos Mellado López, announced today, Friday, that Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia Urrutia will announce a new Executive Order to alleviate the increase in COVID-19 cases in Puerto Rico, but no advanced what restrictions are being considered.

In fact, in the face of multiple questions from the press of this nature, Mellado López has also not advanced what recommendations he will be offering to the governor in the face of the rise in cases, which has been increasing over the past month.

We recommend:

“I talk to the governor every day and explain the situation to him so that he can make the decision, but remember that he has other considerations that the Department of Health does not have,” Mellado López said during a press conference.

This morning, Health reported some 393 positive cases in the period from 11 to 25 August 2021.

Similarly, the agency counted about 18 virus-related deaths.

Despite this, the official ruled out that the possible restrictions again represent the closure of establishments and businesses.

“A restriction cannot last a lifetime. When the cases go down, it is let go. When they go up, it narrows … this is not written in stone,” the doctor addressed. “I don’t have to lock up in Puerto Rico to take care of myself.”
