Govit-19 Vaccine: Dr. Peter Hodges Explains Why All Eyes Are on the Pfizer Vaccine Roll

HOUSTON, Texas (KDRK) – As the first of many Govt-19 vaccine doses goes to distribution sites across the United States, one of Houston’s vaccines and corona virus experts says all eyes are on the release.

“A lot of things are going to happen in these 24-hour news cycles, and it’s important to remember not to exercise too much about the ups and downs,” explained Dr. Peter Hodes, dean of the National School. Tropical Medicine at Baylor Medical College.

Hodges spoke with ABC 13 on Sunday afternoon for the first time since the Pfizer vaccine was approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

He said he is on a waiting list to get his dose.

“I’m glad this is happening,” he said. “I hope we can move quickly [partly] Because we have no national control strategy, which means, practically speaking, it supported us in a corner, with this very high level of exchange that there is really nothing else to offer. If there was a national control program throughout the year we would not have had this extreme urgency to get vaccinated. Now we need to get vaccinated to get rid of this, I think we will, but it will take some time. “

Hodes said the two things doctors want to vaccinate are to get people out of the hospital and out of the ICU.

“If enough people are vaccinated, we can actually stop the virus from spreading, which would be awesome. This is a very high bar,” he said.

A recent study by Hodges shows that 60% to 80% of people should be vaccinated.

“A lot of stars need to be aligned,” he said.

During the interview, Hodges recalled seeing a tweet in which the vaccine development and distribution process was compared to the 1969 lunar landing. This did not happen, he said. It took many projects and a strong joint effort.

“It’s kind of with vaccines,” Hodes said. “It’s nothing quick and simple. It’s a long drawn out process that took us to where we are.”

He called it the “beginning” and said, “We’m going to roll the dice and remember, this is not going to be a smooth journey. It’s under very serious media scrutiny.
