Grocery store workers are following the COVID-19 vaccine line, as the city plans to administer one million doses by the end of January.
This is part of the second phase of vaccine deployment, which also includes first aid such as police and firefighters, teachers and pharmacists.
The first phase offered shots to ICU and hospital front-line workers, nursing home workers and residents, and EMS workers.
“Since the pandemic began, our members, like many other industries, have been forced to go to work every day and have been exposed to significantly more than most other industries. Therefore, having them in the second phase creates a fairly advantageous situation to maintain their health for themselves and their families, ”said Robert Newell, president of UFCW Local 1500, which represents grocery store employees.
There are a total of five phases in the city plan. Most New Yorkers who are not essential workers or at risk will be vaccinated during the final phase. The chronology extends to September.
