BOSTON (CBS): Tuesday is the day for the Patriots and all the other NFL teams to reduce their roster to 53 players. Movements must be made at 4 p.m. ET.
The team has gone through a couple of rounds of cuts before, but Tuesday’s will be the most significant, as the roster goes from 80 to 53, setting the official roster for Week 1 of the season.
We will have all the updates right here throughout the day. The full list of released players is at the end of the story.
3:20 pm: PFF’s Doug Kyed says gunner Olszewski, JJ Taylor and Harvey Langi will make the list of 53 men, as of now.
Things obviously go smoothly at this time of year, but I’m hearing that WR Gunner Olszewski, RB JJ Taylor and LB Harvey Langi are safe on the Patriots ’starting list of 53 men.

2:07 pm: In uncut news, Stephon Gilmore will start the season on the PUP list, just as it will Byron Cowart.
By source, the news is confirmed that Stephon Gilmore will start the season on the PUP list, which means he will not be able to participate until week 7.

… and novice Cameron McGrone the non-injury list is likely to start the season.
It’s no major surprise, but it looks like Patriots LB debutant Cameron McGrone, a 2021 fifth-round pick who broke his ACL in November, will start the season on the non-football injury list. McGrone could start practicing after six weeks.

Tuesday, 8:50 am: The team released Adrian Colbert and resigned Bill Murray i Tre Nixon Monday, before resigning William Sherman – A sixth-round draft this year – Tuesday.
The Patriots have resigned from rookie OL Will Sherman, Colorado’s sixth-round pick, by source.
Given Sherman’s investment in the draft and versatility, one might think he’s the top candidate to return to the training roster if he eliminates the waivers.

Tre Nixon, who was selected by Ernie Adams before the Patriots legend retired this spring, will be added to the training roster if he removes the resignations.
