Actor Govinda made his film debut in 1986. Born Govind Ahuja, he didn’t look anything like a “star,” but for the next 15 years, he just couldn’t stop him. He gave success after success and crossed the Bollywood horizon like a meteor.
Still, his journey to the top was one of struggle followed by years of triumph and then a sudden fall. On Monday, on Govinda’s birthday, a look at the struggle of her life that was pivotal is shaping her worldview. The actor turned 57 on Monday.
Govinda was born into a pair of actors. His father Arun Ahuja had made about 40 films before leaving the industry. Her mother, Nirmala Devi, was a well-known classical singer and actor. However, Govinda’s first life was one of poverty and struggle. His family stayed in a bungalow on modern Carter Road in Mumbai (then Bombay), until a disaster in his father’s career toppled the family. Arun decided to produce a film and, when it collapsed, was forced to sell his Carter Road residence and move to Virar, in the suburban city of Bombay, where Govinda was born.
Speaking to Simi Garewal, Govinda said her struggle was long and arduous, especially seeing that her mother struggled so much to make things work as a family. He had to take responsibility for how to marry his four daughters. Speaking of his father, Govinda said: “With the failure, he was very moved. He couldn’t take it. “
A business graduate, Govinda talked about the moment she went from one office to another in search of a job. He went to do an interview at the Taj Mahal hotel for the job of an administrator, but failed. “I didn’t do the job because I couldn’t speak English. I couldn’t speak in front of them. ”
Simi then asked him how he had once said that it was his anger at seeing his mother fight that made him become a star. “Sometimes, when you know when someone is struggling to overcome the bad part of life, he struggles very hard and alone, especially a woman and a mother, and with six children trying to do everything, while keeping their dignity intact, the dignity of the family, marrying four daughters, is very difficult. His own initiation into films and acting was anything but easy. His parents had been actors, but there was a gap of almost 33 years before he arrived on the scene. Speaking about it, he had told the Hindustan Times in an interview: “There was a gap of 33 years between them, who left the film industry and I became an actor at 21 years old. So when I entered the industry, a lot of new producers had come who didn’t know much about my lineage. I had to wait hours to get to know them. I understood why they spoke or behaved in a certain way, but they never let it enter between me and my art ”.
And yet, a year after debuting in 1986, at just 22, he had signed up for 50 films. In his days of struggle, his desire to succeed was so strong that he would not stop at anything. Appearing in an interview with journalist Rajat Sharma to Aap Ki Adalat, he had agreed to state that he would send his cassettes to the producers through his servants.
Govinda was infamous for being late to the sets. But it was much stranger to his habit of signing films, at least at the beginning of his career, without even hearing the plot. He often got on stage and then became familiar with his lines.

He then explained to Rajat how he soon learned about not being demanding with work: “I had seen so much poverty and struggle that I often said to myself,“ I’m working. Now should I ask them (the creators) what will happen to the film? ”. He mentioned how he followed his mother’s advice: “Tumhe kaam mila hai, apne Ishwar pe bharosa rakkhna aur kaam karte raho, mehnat karte raho. Jo kaam karo immandarri se karo (now you have a job, you have faith in God and keep working and do it with the utmost honesty) “.
After giving innumerable successes, Govinda’s career suffered a major downturn in the 2000s after the emergence of the Khans. Still, those 15 years in which he shone like a bright star, was simply untouchable. As an actor who acted in both comedies and social dramas, one would only have to wait for a second entry from the actor.
