Hidalgo explained the basics about how the waiting list works. Hidalgo was joined by Dr. Sherri Onyiego, interim local public health authority for Harris County Public Health.
The waiting list is said to be weighted and random, which means that the website will not necessarily favor those with the fastest internet connection. Once the portal opens on Tuesday, everyone will be able to register.
If you belong to groups 1A, 1B or seniors, your record will be weighted by priority and then randomly divided into the priority list.
The launch of this new portal and waiting list expands the previous process, as it allows eligible residents to enroll directly in vaccines, according to a county press release.
Eligible residents who do not have Internet access can also call 832 927-8787 once the portal is published to be placed on the waiting list.
If you do not belong to these three groups, you will still be able to register, but it means that you will be on the waiting list for when the vaccine is opened to the general public.
In addition to the new portal, the public health department will also launch a COVID-19 vaccine data center. The center will show the availability, distribution and other demographic data of the vaccines.
