Harris County makes “leftover” vaccine doses available to school district employees

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Harris County teachers and school staff who are on the waiting list for COVID-19 vaccines are being called by Harris County Public Health if there are doses. leftovers ”at the end of the day.

The program was developed by Harris County Public Health as a way to make sure no vaccine doses are missed while most front-line employees are vaccinated.

“The idea we started last week is that we will assign our appointments“ without presentation ”to staff on our Level 1A and Level 1B waiting lists,” said Dr. Maria Rivera of Harris County Public Health. .

Rivera noted that mass vaccination sites in Harris County move locations each week and are generally held at high school stadiums or other school facilities with large parking lots. When people fill out the Harris County Department of Health waiting list, they already ask you if you’re working in a school district and which one. Therefore, it is easy for the county computer system to obtain a list of eligible school district employees in the area where the megacities are located.

“They have to be level 1A or 1B and they have to be able to go to our places quickly,” Rivera said. He adds that another advantage is that educators usually live nearby and can quickly enroll on their computers when they are notified of additional doses that could expire.

Harris County says it works with the county’s 21 school districts, as well as charter schools and private schools in each area. As mega vaccine locations change from week to week, the county changes the districts it contacts each week, focusing on districts where the county uses school properties and where employees can live nearby.

If you’re an educator and want to make sure you’re on the “no show” vaccine dose call list, make sure you’re on the Harris County vaccine waiting list. Specify for the school district where you work from the drop-down menu. Remember that the process will continue to be weighted and random, so you will only contact employees who meet the requirements under state guidelines.

“This is a way to make sure you don’t get lost and that you always go to eligible people,” Rivera said.
