Vice President Harris moved to his official residence at the Naval Observatory on Tuesday evening after an initial delay due to repairs.
“What a historic moment. For the first time in the history of our nation, immigrant daughter Kamala Devi Harris is bringing Marine 2 for the first time to her new home, the vice president’s residence, ”said Opal Vadhan, Harris’ assistant, after the vice president returned from a trip to Chicago.

The building is located across the street from the White House and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and has historically been used to house visiting dignitaries.
The Observatory Circle residence had been closed due to repairs, including maintenance work on the air conditioning system, the replacement of the chimney liners in the chimneys and the refurbishment of some floors.
The Victorian Naval Observatory was built in 1893, but was not designated as the Vice President’s residence until 1974.
Unlike the White House, the residence provides a layer of privacy, with its location set apart from many federal buildings and the obscure view from the street.
It is believed that the Navy provided funding for much of the renovations, while the Vice President’s Residence Foundation may provide visual changes such as new works of art.
