Harry and Meghan should have had a “common courtesy” to tell Queen about Oprah’s interview

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should have had the “common courtesy” of communicating to the Queen their upcoming “nuclear” television interview with Oprah Winfrey, a real expert said.

According to reports, the couple did not inform Her Majesty in advance that they planned to take part in the 90-minute special, where they will discuss why they dramatically resigned from being members of the royal family last year.

Appearing in Lorraine today, royal editor Russell Myers claimed that while the couple has no obligation to communicate their plans to the firm, it would have been the right one.

“If you want to shoot a nuclear bomb like this, doing a great interview that will definitely get your attention on world networks, the most decent thing would be to tell the queen, tell your grandmother what you will do,” he said .

He predicted that the royal family would be “horrified” by their plans to attract world media attention and called the decision a “fun change of touch” for a couple who have “complained about privacy and of intense control of the media “.

“We know they have gone it alone and marked this path for themselves, the fact is that they are now separated from the royal family,” Myers said.

“Palace aides said they didn’t need to tell us if they didn’t want to, but one might think there’s a common courtesy.”

Sources close to the Sussex told the London Evening Standard yesterday that the couple still had a good relationship with the queen, the duke’s grandmother.

A royal source said that as the couple no longer worked in the royal family, any decision taken on “media commitments is their thing”.

The source added that the Sussex had “no obligation” to report the royal house of the interview, which CBS announced in a press release.

Oprah’s best friend, Gayle King, has told the presenter that she has been given total freedom over what topics she discusses with the couple, which Myers predicts will have “disastrous consequences” for the company.

“The story is yet to be seen,” Myers said, “Whenever family members do these great revealing interviews, they have disastrous consequences. Look at Prince Andrew recently, beyond the 1990s with Diana and Charles, now we’re still talking about it.” ”.

He added: “This week it has been reported that they only met Oprah once before the wedding, so the fact that she is a trusted friend, I think, is on unstable ground.”

CBS has described the interview as an “intimate conversation” that includes “an extensive interview” with Meghan, on “from treading life as a royal, marriage, motherhood and philanthropic work to how he handles life under intense public pressure.”

Myers predicted that the news of the “explosive” interview would have been “horrible” for the royal family, adding that the chat is a “fun change of touch” for a couple who have stressed their desire for privacy. .

He said, “It’s absolutely horrible news, I would say, for the royal family. The fact that Gail King is training the big Oprah interview so hard, saying they really wanted to get it, and that it’s going to be absolutely explosive.

What do we know about the Oprah interview?

ISSUE DETAILS

  • ‘Oprah With Meghan And Harry: A CBS Primetime Special’ will be a 90-minute program on CBS on March 7
  • The interview is expected to be filmed this week and details of the UK broadcast have not yet been confirmed

TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED

CBS says the first half of the chat will see Meghan talk to Oprah about:

  • “Entering Life as Real”
  • Marriage and motherhood
  • Philanthropic work
  • “Life under intense public pressure”

In the second half, Harry will see how he joins Meghan as they talk about:

  • His move to the US
  • “Your hopes and future dreams for your expanding family”

They are expected to discuss the resignation as royal majors, but are unlikely to go into all the details that preceded this, to avoid upsetting the queen.

“The fact that Oprah has been given carte blanche to ask for anything will make the royal family very, very nervous.”

Myers added: “It’s a fun change of touch when you’ve complained about privacy and an intense media scrutiny, to sign up for the queen of the world’s chat program to broadcast to millions and millions of people.” .

Recently, The Daily Mail revealed that Harry and Meghan will lose all their remaining royal sponsorships after the queen asked the couple to relinquish their ties to the royal family-run organizations.

Harry, 36, would be stripped of his three remaining honorary military titles and potentially his sponsorships with the Rugby Football Union, the Rugby Football League and the London Marathon.

Meghan, 38, should stop being patron of the National Theater unless she can negotiate another position with them.

When she was handed the role in 2019, it was seen as an important gesture of support and affection because the Queen had been patroness of the London institution for 45 years.

Speaking of the decision, Myers said: ‘I think it always came and, reading between the lines, the queen said’ You can’t have one foot in and one foot out. ‘

“Harry will be stripped of his military titles, the honorary titles he loves so much, and with Meghan she was named the patroness of the national theater the queen held for more than 45 years.

“There will be a lot of people within these associations who will be sad to see them leave because they really trust this association with the royal family.”
