“Security and medical staff work around the clock to protect staff and detainees and prevent the spread of the virus. We are seeking alternative resources to help staff manage this situation,” said PSD Director Max Ottani.

On October 22, Ohu moved to the lower control tier 2 of Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s four-tier economic recovery plan. The mayor’s office says the city takes a “weekly assessment” every Wednesday of two major COVID-19 numbers to see if Honolulu will move to another level. To move from Tier 2 to Tier 3, the 7-day average of new cases must be below 50 on two consecutive Wednesdays. Also, the 7-day average positive rate on those two Wednesdays should be less than 2.5%.

According to Caldwell, Ohu’s seven-day average case count today is 73 and the positive rate is 2.3%.
