HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii on Friday reported 865 new cases of COVID-19, boosting the total number of infections statewide since the pandemic began to 65,890.
There were also seven new fatalities, bringing the number of deaths by COVID in Hawaii to 613.
The state said five people were killed in Oahu: a 30-year-old man, a 40-year-old man, a 50-year-old man, a 60-year-old woman and an 80-year-old woman, as well as a 50-year-old Maui man. and a woman in her 60s from the island of Hawaii. All individuals had underlying conditions.
According to Lieutenant Governor Josh Green, 446 people are hospitalized with the virus, a new record, with 83% of patients unvaccinated.
Of the cases reported on Friday:
- 552 were in Oahu
- 131 on the island of Hawaii
- 137 on Maui
- 42 a Kauai
There were also three residents diagnosed out of state.
About 63.8% of the state’s population is fully vaccinated, while 72.1% have received at least one dose.
The latest figures come as the state has been struggling with lab information problems that have been accused of pushing labs to their limits.
